Sammy comic and more DCFF

sammysom
I did this comic as part of my 24 hour comic book day activity. I went out on the streets of Montpelier for an hour or so and came back with some cool comics, some Berni Wrightson comics an Alien Worlds comic and an I Vampire comic.
I drew out the panels with no idea what would go in them and then picked random panels from the comics I had just bought and drew them into random panels on the page, then concocted a Sammy story around it.

Post SPX Post 2010

Yall,

So SPX is over. It was tons of fun. I saw some old friends who I've missed. Got some real good comics. Played free pin-ball at my cousin's house and drank their beer. Over all a good time.
Here's me at the table with my books and my Nerdlinger I got it for Best Character in Fishnets: Amelia
Denis St. John and Nerdlinger Award!
Picture provided by Jen Vaughn.
My table mates were Holly Foltz, Tim Stout, and G.P. Bonesteel.
I also drove down with Keny Widjaja, Holly, and David Yoder

I haven't read all the books I got yet, but so far I'm really digging them, maybe I'll write more about them later.
But now it's back to the "real world".

Space aftermath and sketches

So,
S.P.A.C.E. was real nice. I didn't end up making my Amelia 3 preview, just didn't have enough time, so sorry about that. But, other than that I was well prepared for the con and ended up having a great time.
It ended up being a 13 hour drive to Columbus, and on the way back the same amount of time, but all in the rain.
The con itself was not that well attended, but there was still brisk business. One thing that struck me was how nice everyone was. I met some real cool cartoonists, saw some real sweet books, made a couple cool trades. I met Guy Davis, who I've been a big fan of for a long time. I traded with Mark Bloodworth, who's got some real cool comics
After the con a friend of mine who lives in Columbus told us about Studio 35. It's a cool old theater that was having a...get this... beer tasting, local Columbus beers and screening of Pee Wee's Big Adventure! Yeah, so I had a good time.

So, here's some more sketchbook and marker drawings, a couple of these I did at Space.

you might remember this drawing, but with marker color.

S.P.A.C.E. in a week

Hey folks,

As you may know I'm headed to Columbus, Ohio, next weekend for the comic con, S.P.A.C.E.

I'm not done with Amelia part 3 yet, but I'm close enough to put together a con-exclusive preview of it.
Here's the cover,
amelia3cover
For the finished part 3 this image will probably be used as the interior front cover.

MoCCa 2010

So, I won't be at MoCCa this year. Sorry all my friends and fans who planned to go just for me :-(

BUT, I will have work in an anthology there. Werwolf 2, a.k.a. Werewolf!!

Cover by Penina Gal. I've seen most of the comics that are going to be in this, and they are awesome!
New work by Penina, Josh Rosen, Nick Patten, Laura Terry, Betsey Swardlick, Mark Bilokur, Matt Aucoin, David Yoder, Jose-Luis Olivares, I think that's it. This is what I showed the samples for HERE

I'm real proud of my work for this story, I think my best inked page ever is in this comic!

Pre Halloween Weekend

My last weekend before Halloween this year was pretty busy with horror themed things consuming it!

First I went down to Keene New Hampshire for a signing at Comic Boom!
COMIC BOOM!
Where the owner, Corey, gave us a real nice set up,
Steve Bissette, Cat Garza, Colleen Frakes, Jon Chad, Penina Gal, Josh Rosen, Bill Volk, and Betsey Swardlick all came to sell and sign their books!

My Books!!

Then after that we went to Spooktacular III, ran by the creatures from Saturday Fright Special
me with The Scarewolf
me with one of the hosts, Scarewolf

The movie was Brides of Dracula, it was at a beutiful old theatre, there was a costume contests, the hosts were great, all in all it was an awesome show.
Colonial Spooktacular III Brides of Dracula

The kind of show that reminds me of Atomic Age Cinema, one of the Atomic Age Cinema folks, Dave Underwood, sent me this email,

The crew from THE DARK CARNIVAL FILM FEST have teamed with HORROR HOUND magazine to put on a live HALLOWEEN SPECIAL this Saturday night (October 24th) at 8-11 Pm (Eastern). It will also be re-broadcast on Halloween night from 8-11 Pm

The show will include: Monsters, Demons, Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves....blood, guts....and an assortment of other MONSTROUS and TERRIFYING things TOOO horrible to mention.

If you live in Southwest Ohio, or Southern Indiana, you can access the show on Time Warner channel 991 or AT&T channel 99. You can also access it on the internet by going to: www.mvcc.net....then click on "TV/VIDEO SERVICES"..then click on "LIVE STREAMING VIDEO"...then click on "CHANNEL 991" (Remember, a Broadband Connection is needed for best results!)

TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS!

So, I missed that, but hopefully I'll get to see it at some point.

THEN!,
I got interviewed about Monsters & Girls: Amelia parts 1 & 2 by Curt Purcell over at the Groovy Age of Horror.
Here's the direct link.

Curt Purcell asked some really in depth and tough questions! So check that out, it's got some art I sent him that I've never posted here, and I go into the origin of Amelia as a character. And I'd recommend checking out the whole blog, especially since my interview is sandwiched between 2 really crazy fumetti posts that make my comic look like your typical bland american.

okay, talk to y'all later,

Denis

Comic signings

This last Saturday I went down to Summerville, MA with Colleen Frakes and Bryan Stone to Hub Comics
There we met up with Caitlin Plovnick, Cat Garza, and Mario Van Buren to sell and sign comics.

photos courtesy of Colleen Frakes, thanks.

It was a good show, I was in good comics company, had a fun time, ate some good food.

THIS NEXT Saturday.
I'll be at Comic Boom! in Keene New Hampshire

Selling and signing again, this time with Steve Bissette and Nick Patten.
This will also be on the same day as the Saturday Fright Special's Spooktacular II,

Copies of my comics will be going up for raffle during that! If you're near the area it's definetly worth the trip!
I went to Spooktacular I and had an awesome time, they show really nice prints of the movies on a huge screen in an old school theater, do the whole showmanship thing, throw things at the audience, etc.

Also, I took some pictures of gifts from Atomic Age Cinema, my old stomping grounds. I'm going to post one a week for a while. They were put together mostly by my friend, John Landis. Here's the first one,
Be an Atom Age Vampire
we gave this out with Atom Age Vampire
It's an atomic fireball and glow in the dark teeth.
On the back it reads:

Beards of Bethesda (BoB)

Here's a video made by Joe Lambert and Alexis Fredric-Frost chronicaling one of the most interesting aspects of last weekends SPX.
